2012 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 Sport Cars

Here are versions of the Aston Martin Vantage designed for the GT2 and GT4 competitions but now Aston Martin and its racing division, Aston Martin Racing (AMR), have unveiled a new GT3 version.

Based on the V12 Vantage production car already in showrooms, the new Vantage GT3 race car will serve as the replacement for the aging DBRS9 and will see its first action next year where it will race against the likes of the 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
You may recall, the DBRS9 was first launched in 2006 and has since seen 26 chassis built and raced to multiple victories in national and international series across the world.

Now, with the upcoming addition of the new Vantage GT3, Aston Martin’s fleet of race cars will be comprised of five different models, the others being the aforementioned Vantage GT2 and GT4, as well as the DBR9 GT1 and recently revealed AMR-One LMP1.
This makes Aston Martin the only automaker to offer a race car for every GT class, firmly cementing it as a global forerunner in race car production.

Designed to FIA regulations, the new Vantage GT3 is built around the Vantage’s aluminum VH architecture with a lightweight dry-sumped 6.0-liter V-12 engine, positioned even further back to optimize weight balance.

Other features include a semi-automatic six-speed Xtrac gearbox with paddle shifters and new race-developed ABS and traction control systems, optimized specifically for this model.

Peak output is rated close to 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, with drive sent to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber shaft.

The final curb weight is just 2,756 pounds. Oh, and those chunky wheels measure in at 12.5 x 18 inches up front and 13 x 18 inches at the rear.
The 2012 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 will be eligible for numerous race series around the world including the FIA GT3 Championship, ADAC Masters, Nurburgring VLN, Blancpain Endurance Series, British GT, Belcar and Open GT among others.

Official testing will commence in October, and only ten customer cars are set to be built, ready for delivery for the start of the 2012 season. Pricing starts at a cool £298,000, or about $492,000 at current exchange rates.

Some of its competition will include this recently revealed BMW Z4 GT3 race car, as well as Porsche’s iconic range of 911 GT3 models.

2011 Aston Martin DBS Concept

The DBS is the first production Aston Martin to make extensive use of body panels, ultra-light carbon fiber, which results in high levels of performance and control thanks to the combination of inherent light weight, near-perfect weight distribution, a powerful and flexible V12 engine.

As with all current Aston Martins, the engine is assembled by hand in the offices of Aston Martin’s engine dedicated in Cologne, Germany. The classic 6.0-liter V12 has a growing number of power improvements, including a by-pass air intake port of the engine that opens above 5500rpm to allow more air into the engine, and re-shaped intake ports air that further improve airflow into the combustion chamber.
Combined with a compression ratio of 10.9:1, the result of these enhancements is prodigious power and torque: the DBS delivers 510 horsepower at 6500 rpm. The 3.71:1 final drive ratio ensures that the additional power is useful, enhancing in gear acceleration in the DB9 and its sibling DBR9 particular.Like and DBRS9 race cars, the DBS uses Aston Martin, class-leading all league -VH (Vertical Horizontal architecture), a lightweight bonded aluminum structure that provides excellent strength and rigidity.
Carbon fiber panels are used for the boot enclosure, boot lid, door opening surrounds, front wings and bonnet, giving a saving of about 30kg over more conventional materials without any reduction in strength.

To take full advantage of its rigid platform, the DBS employs a new and sophisticated Adaptive Damping System (ADS) which uses two separate valves to set the dampers to five different positions, allowing instant adjustment of the car ride and features driving. The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times, with the ability to respond instantly to different driving conditions. The dampers can be ‘softer’, with an improvement in ride quality, or ‘firm’, providing improved body control for a more lively driving.

Damping settings are determined by an electronic control unit that takes readings from sensors on the car’s systems, including throttle position, brake position, direction and speed of rotation of the wheels.

The DBS’s Adaptive Damping System ensures that stiffer dampers are available for better handling and control when the car is being driven enthusiastically, without compromising comfort during normal driving conditions.
The so-called Track mode automatically sets all dampers to their firmest positions, making it ideal for driving the circuit. The DBS is fitted with Pirelli P-Zero, which were developed especially for the car, along with new wheels 20 inch alloy rims.

The DBS also has a revised version of the system Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), designed to help maintain traction in difficult driving.

Car’s braking system marks the first time Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes have been used in a road-going Aston Martin. The end result is shorter stopping distances with excellent resistance to fade even under the most demanding driving. CCM brakes are also some 12.5 kilograms lighter than a conventional system, reducing the weight of the car in general and in particular, the unsprung weight and rotational masses, further enhancing the performance of the suspension.

Presented as an alternative to six-speed manual gearbox, DBS customers will now have the option of Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic transmission. Derived from the same ZF transaxle unit that was developed for the DB9, the system has been substantially redesigned to accommodate the characteristics of power and performance of the DBS.

2011 Aston Martin V12 Zagato Concept

Aston Martin will be celebrating the iconic DB4GT Zagato’s 50th anniversary with a new concept car developed in collaboration with the Italian design house Zagato. The concept car made its first appearance at the Villa D’Este Concours on May 21st, 2011 and will make its racing debut at Nürburgring on May 28th.

Dr. Ulrich Bez, Chief Executive said: “The DNA of both Aston Martin and Zagato has combined successfully to make some of the world’s most desirable collector cars in the past and in this special anniversary year of the DB4GT Zagato it is appropriate to explore a modern collaboration. Now is the right time for a new Aston Martin Zagato and in combining our design intelligence I think we can create something fitting of the iconic DB4GT Zagato that has gone before and since established itself as one of the most famous Aston Martins of all time.”

The original Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato made its first appearance in 1960 at the London Motor Show. It was essentially a much lighter DB4 GT that got worked on by the Italian Coachbuilder to include a 3670 cc straight-6 DOHC engine that produced 314 HP with a top speed of 154 mph.
The new V12 Zagato is based on a V12 Vantage model, but incorporates the technologies applied in the One-77 supercar. The model is built on a handcrafted aluminum body, which allowed the team to easily model the car’s form. The result of this work is a car with a beautiful and muscular design.

Each front wing alone comprises seven separate pieces of aluminum, combined and then hand finished to give one flowing form. Another iconic Zagato design cue is the double bubble roof created, in this case, from five separate pieces illustrating further the intensity of craftsmanship involved in the construction of the V12 Zagato.

Director of Design, Marek Reichman said: “The Design team at Gaydon spent time refining the concept using a mixture of the latest computer based modelling techniques along with crafting traditional clay models to give a real world idea of proportion, stance and detail. The V12 Zagato is an elegant yet brutal design which reflects the great balance between race performance and pure Aston Martin style. The original DB4GT Zagato was a true icon, powerful and graceful; the new design is a true representation of the spirit of DB4GT Zagato. The muscular organic forms define the thoroughbred nature of the car’s racing credentials
Under the hood, the V12 Zagato features a 6.0-liter V12 engine that delivers a total of 510 HP and 420 lb ft of torque. The engine is mated to a rear mid-mounted, six-speed automated manual gearbox with auto shift manual/select shift manual (ASM/SSM) electric hydraulic control system that sends the power to the rear wheels.

The Aston Martin V12 Zagato will make its first appearance at the Lake Como, Italy at the Villa D’Este Concours tomorrow and then its first race debut will be at the Nürburgring 24 hour race on June 25-26, 2011. The model will be followed by a production version, in extremely limited numbers. Expect that production version to appear sometime next year.

The one thing limiting the Aston Martin V12 Zagato is the number of production units. Other models such as the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Porsche Turbo S will deliver the same performance as the Aston, but these models are available for anyone with the money to purchase them.

As a reminder, the Ferrari 458 Italia is powered by a 4.5 Liter V8 engine that produces 570 HP and sprints from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.4 seconds to a top speed of 202 MPH. The Porsche 911 Turbo S is powered by a six cylinder boxer engine with an output of 530 HP. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 195 MPH.

2011 Aston Martin One-77 Edition

The One-77 Aston Martin car is the ultimate sports, one that encompasses all the Aston Martin of technology, the hand-crafted hand rolled aluminum panels for the attention to detail. The culmination of all brand of know-how, the One-77 provides effortless beauty guaranteed to stir the senses, with performance potential eclipsing any previous Aston Martin.

For Aston Martin chief executive, Dr Ulrich Bez, revealing secrets of the One-77 is a proud moment: “Since the beginning of the project, the vision for One-77 is very simple: it had to combine high technology with hand-built craftsmanship and demonstrate the unique capabilities and passion of our designers, engineers and technical partners. “just got to be the ultimate expression of Aston Martin. As you can see now, we have achieved that aim in magnificent style.
Chris Porritt, One-77 Program Manager continued: “We wanted to create something that excites you as much when you see what’s under the skin as the exterior styling itself. We begin by identifying the most technologically exciting front-engined, cars rear-wheel drive in the world: the DTM racing series. Then applied the principles and technology that feature strongly in their design and application translated into a road car
Consequently, the One-77 is a structural core fiber monocoque lightweight and extremely rigid carbon. “Bath” Conceived and designed Aston Martin in Gaydon HQ, the monocoque, or was built in partnership with Multimatic (MTC). As world leaders in carbon composite technology, advanced analysis and simulation of vehicle dynamics, MTC brings unparalleled specialized capabilities for the demanding challenge of the program One-77

Employing the classic formula of double wishbones at each corner, the One-77 has interior front and rear suspension, with sticks, used to transfer the suspension movements mounted vertical to horizontal spring / damper. A practice taken directly from racing car design, the main advantages of the suspension interiors are a reduction in unsprung weight and capacity of the package of suspension components more efficient.

The shocks are fully adjustable and feature advanced Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) technology, a first-world application for a road car. These valves are the special state of the art, even at the highest levels of motorsport, and use of high precision machined components to allow the absorption characteristics of the shock absorber to be changed without having to remove them from the car, as is the norm.

Emphasizing the truly personalized One-77, once delivered to its owner, the car features will be precisely the suspension set-up by Aston Martin engineers to meet your exact requirements, from the proper settings for the last long-distance GT , a machine capable of winning the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
While the functionality and efficiency are critical in the design and construction of the ‘One-77, so is the aesthetic beauty. To that end each component was made from the finest materials, with absolute attention to detail. From the mesmerizing story of the tub shiny carbon fiber and beauty, abstract sculpture of the shell of the dry sump oil, with the unerring accuracy of machined billet aluminum suspension mounts, the One-77 rolling chassis is a work of art automotive.

Of course the irony is that most exquisite of these components will be hidden from view in the finished car, but each piece is a work of art in its own right. It is this extraordinary object and non-cash commitment to quality that is the only One-77.

Naturally, this situation requires chassis spectacular – and if – a drivetrain also exceptional. It comes in the form of a huge powerful 7.3 liters, naturally aspirated V12 engine. Thanks to the adoption of a system of oil dry sump engine is mounted 100 mm lower than any Aston Martin V12-engined road car before, which helps maintain the One-77 center of gravity as low as possible. To help even more agile and provide the One-77 with progressive and stable handling, the predictable behavior in the limit, the engine is also mounted 257 mm compared to the aft of the front wheel axle. In doing so the layout of the front mid-engine shared by all of the current range of Aston Martin road car was taken to a new level.

dynamic reviews are central to the S Vantage, with an accelerated rate toward the rack 15:01 17:01 compared to the standard car and a larger diameter front brake disc brake calipers with new six-piston front. New springs and dampers, wider rear wheels and also help with the revision of the chassis. A new Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system specifically tuned to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S together with a new brake module providing features such as Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), which provides assistance in emergency braking situations, and Hill Start Assist (HSA). Bespoke tires with Bridgestone were developed to optimize adhesion by increasing the dynamic feel.
At the core of S Aston Martin V8 Vantage is the new seven-speed Sportshift ™ II automated manual transmission, offered as standard and offers exceptionally fast gear changes, twenty percent faster than Sportshift ™. The smaller gear ratios well spaced advantage allows optimum torque, which combined with a shorter final drive ratio of 4.182:1 provides quicker acceleration and more sporty feel. The benefits inherent in a single clutch system reduces the complexity and significant weight in a solution of double clutch. Sportshift ™ II allows the driver to take a greater level of control by modulating the gas pedal to achieve the desired type of switch gears. Moreover, the S Vantage has a sport button that speeds and changing gears allows the driver to a more aggressive throttle response while also opening the exhaust valves divert most of the engine speed range perfectly characterize the ‘S’ variant.

As with all Aston Martin, Aston Martin V8 Vantage S benefits from its own unique sound with a new muffler and valve bypass map, creating a note very distinct and highly vocal exhaust.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage S is instantly recognizable as a true Aston Martin, characterized by its purposeful stance convey his agility and performance. Ahead, a new front bumper houses completed in less carbon fiber perfectly aligned with a higher intake of air feeding the engine and front brakes. The divider combined with the work “flip” cover extended platform in harmony to offer a higher down force at high speed. Bridging the gap between road car and racing cars, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S is strongly influenced by the race car of 2011 Vantage GT4. The GT4 Vantage takes immensely rigid bonded aluminum chassis, providing the ideal platform for a race car. Minor race safety modifications, including an FIA approved cage and tank the bag racing gasoline along with weight-saving measures are made to the standard road car to convert it into a class winning race car. In 2010, he won his class at 24 Hours of Dubai after this endurance race with the most wins in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, Silverstone and Spa 24 Hours 24 Hours. He also won his first major championship victory in the GT4 European Cup International
The logic behind the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S was to push the boundaries of the already acclaimed V8 Vantage with the highest levels of driver involvement as possible. Aston Martin engineers began to grow almost all the dynamic elements of the car to create a highly distinctive driving experience.

“With each new model, we will continue to evolve and improve our VH architecture,” said the Aston Martin Director of Product Development, Ian Minards. “The engineering team at Gaydon looked at every single performance attribute of the V8 Vantage, engine and transmission to suspension, steering, brakes and tires and found that it was necessary to make this car deserves the coveted emblem of the ‘S’. The result is a package of pure driver-focused, in both coupe and roadster form, explores and emphasizes the sporting character of Vantage iconic. ”

The 4.7 liter V8 engine was modified to deliver peak power of 430 hp (436 PS / 321 kW) at 7200 rpm and torque of 490 Nm (361 lb.ft) at 5,000 rpm represents an increase of 10 hp and 20 nm respectively, and is represented with a black engine liner. The increase was achieved through an air intake valve system and an aggressive spark. The air inlet valve opens above 3500 rpm, to allow more airflow to the engine, which helps optimize performance, precisely the right part of the torque curve. Spark aggressive strategy uses sophisticated electronics to ignite the fuel in the engine, at precisely the moment the right, allowing it to run at its most powerful. It can also recognize higher octane fuel and extract the maximum performance rating increased.

The power delivery and torque on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S is delivered to the most widely used mid-range engine speeds, which creates a gentle and easy acceleration. Most demand for horsepower and torque is in the mid-range Aston Martin V8 Vantage S is where the greatest torque is delivered at 5,000 rpm.

Sportshift ™ II is an automated manual transmission with a new seven-speed Graziano box, which is positioned at the rear of the Aston Martin Vantage S transaxle helping to balance near 49:51 weight. The system benefits from a single manual clutch coupled with the electronic switching gears to change rates and was designed from the beginning, exclusively for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S. Aston Martin chosen specifically to develop the system SportshiftTM due to her sporting involved, including the mass complexity, reduced the savings of moving parts, real and tangible changes in gait. This contributes, along with other weight saving shares, a reduction of total vehicle weight of 30 kg.

electro-hydraulic controls are operated by two steering column-mounted magnesium paddles allows the driver to shift up or down. Faster than a conventional manual system, and at least 50 pounds lighter than a dual-clutch, Sportshift ™ II offers the inherent benefits of being able to drive in automatic mode and shift manually. Sportshift ™ II is 24 kg lighter than Sportshift ™ featured on the standard Vantage.

Sportshift ™ II gives seven reasons for allowing the first six marches to sit closer advantage characteristic of torque, which increases the feeling of acceleration and gives the driver greater control. The seventh art is a relationship to deliver a more calmer, more refined the art of cruising by stretches of the motorway and also delivers better fuel economy.

driver interaction with SportshiftTM II is made as simple as possible to allow the driver to concentrate on the road. Two magnesium paddles allow an up or down through a change of gear. The controls are mounted on the column so that the driver can always find them easily, no matter what position the wheel is within

As well as select gears manually with the paddle-shift, the driver is also able to select the “D” button on the dashboard to activate the automatic mode, which works like a traditional automatic gear change precisely at the right time, doing Traffic light work, urban and motorway driving.

The new seven-speed automated manual is standard on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S suiting perfectly the nature of motor sport. Aston Martin chose not to offer a manual transmission option, due to high demand expected Sportshift ™ II.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage S ‘sporty character really comes into its own when the sport button is depressed on the dashboard giving the driver faster gear changes in both manual and automatic (a decrease of 60 milliseconds) and prevents the car moving to the next gear when the revolution limit is reached. The “normal” provides a more gradual acceleration, more suited to everyday situations, like driving in urban areas, heavy traffic, or in difficult time. Selecting the ‘Sport’ mode provides a more marked acceleration along with a sporty exhaust note. This mode is designed for use in dynamic driving situations where responses are required sharper, extracting maximum performance from the car.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage S weighs 1610 kg (coupe), 30 kg lighter than the standard Vantage due to the weight optimization of new transmission Sportshift ™ II and use of carbon fiber. Air-cooled rather than oil cooled, the Sportshift ™ II system takes advantage with the elimination of the oil pump and associated accessories save 24 kg over the conventional six-speed Sportshift ™ system.

As with all Aston Martins, the Vantage S benefits from near perfect weight balance of 49:51 front to rear, due to the positioning of the gearbox in the transaxle contributing to the excellent dynamics.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage S remains a practical day to day sports car with a boot of 300 liters, with convenient opening tailgate shaped coupe, the roadster has a retractable soft top that can be automatically operated by 30 km / h.

The S variant features a unique muffler specifically tuned to set your intention phonetically sports. A revised map opens the bypass valves at the beginning of the range of rotations of 3500 rpm and even before, the ‘Sport’ mode producing more crackle on overrun.

2011 Aston Martin Vantage GT4

Aston Martin Racing has launched a new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in 2011. The new V8 race car has inspired the design of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage road car, giving it improved aerodynamics and increased downforce. He also has an offer of 4.7 liters engine remapped increased levels of power and torque.
